18 February 2026

College Vice Captain, Ollie, and Student Life Prefect, Fred, join our Head of Athletic Development and Performance, Mr Scott Baker (PAC 1990), to explore the thinking behind our brand鈥憂ew Athletic Development facility.

Welcome to the first episode of the 国产爆料 Podcast for 2026.

As we count down to opening the doors of our brand-new Athletic Development facility inside the RED Centre to students and Old Scholars, this episode provides a deeper look at how this expanded space will elevate movement, wellbeing, and performance across the College. The boys speak with Mr Baker about why intentional, well鈥慸esigned physical activity is so important for the health of young men鈥攏ot only in terms of fitness, strength and skill, but also for mental clarity, stress regulation, confidence, and improved academic outcomes.

Reflecting on the experience of recording the episode, Ollie shared, 鈥淧reparing to record the podcast wasn鈥檛 what I expected. I felt pressure and excitement to keep the conversation flowing, but Mr Baker and Fred were extremely helpful. They checked over my questions and made me feel comfortable.鈥

He also spoke about his anticipation for the new facility, 鈥淚鈥檓 most looking forward to testing all the new equipment and continuing my athletic journey, along with having fun with mates experiencing an environment like this for the first time.鈥

The conversation highlights some of the exciting new additions the facility offers, including yoga and Pilates studios designed to support flexibility, balance and injury prevention, as well as state鈥憃f鈥憈he鈥慳rt golf simulators arriving in Term 2. With a significantly larger footprint, the new space will accommodate team sport training, Preparatory and Secondary PE lessons, and general daily use by students, staff and Old Scholars. It has been purpose鈥慴uilt to help boys understand how to train safely, develop sustainable habits and experience the benefits of conditioning in an environment that is supportive, inclusive and grounded in expert guidance.

Ollie shared his perspective on the culture within the centre, 鈥淎s senior students, our role is to set the tone. Being the first Year 12 group to use the space means it鈥檚 critical we set the standard in terms of expectations and respect within the facility." and Fred added, "Creating a welcoming environment really matters鈥攕ometimes just having a chat with a younger boy or helping him with technique can make his day.鈥

Both leaders also reflected on how they will personally use the facility. Ollie noted he will use it for "rowing and rugby trainging, and as a space to unwind before and after school", while Fred shared, 鈥淚鈥檒l be using the weightlifting and pilates rooms to help me reach my swimming goals. Working out is a time where my mind is taken off any stress. I feel excellent after some exercise.鈥

Listeners will also learn more about Mr Baker鈥檚 extensive professional background鈥攆rom supporting everyday athletes to working with elite competitors across multiple sports, including the Australian cycling team. As an Old Scholar, he is now bringing that expertise back to 国产爆料, supporting the next generation of young men in their athletic development journey.
